1. Introduction

24U FM Bench is the ultimate benchmarking tool for FileMaker solutions. It in general consists of four main parts:

FM Bench Detective

• set of custom functions
• script steps integration example

FM Bench Analyzer

• Error Checker to check the script steps implementation in solution for errors
• Session Browser to see all sessions that fulfill the filter parameters
• Bottleneck Finder to help localized the most problematic objects in solution
• Reporter to see the list of generated reports

FM Bench Optimizer

• tips for optimizing FileMaker solutions

FM Bench Assistents

• detailed description of using third party tools

FM Bench Detective and FM Bench Analyzer use 24U Toolbox Plug-In to measure precise timestamps and to store collected data to the 24U FM Bench log file. The plug-in does not have to be registered to perform these actions but you have to register it if you want to properly benchmark server-side scripts or multi-file solutions.

Note: FileMaker Pro Advanced 13 or higher is essential for running 24U Toolbox Plug-In and is sufficient for working with the resulting 24U FM Bench 1.3.1 log file.

2. Quick start

The best way how to start using 24U FM Bench is follow the next few steps.

1. Open the FM Bench Detective and read the on-screen instructions to copy the script steps into your own solution.
2. Use your own solution at least one day. While running your scripts, a log file will be generated.
3. Once you will have the first measuring data you can open the FM Bench Analyzer and begin with analyses and search out bottlenecks to optimization.
