In the last article I mentioned I attended Pause[x]Berlin 2013 with my team and gave you the video recording of my session Optimization Madness. I’m glad to tell you that I have one more recording from this event for you. We also recorded Fabrice Nordmann’s session Client Offload.
You can watch the whole Fabrice’s session below:
In my session I talked about general principles of FileMaker performance optimization. Fabrice Nordmann presented one very specific optimization technique he calls FMSDIFM. The acronym stands for “FileMaker Server Do It For Me” and it’s a method to offload some tasks, which usually take long to run in FileMaker Pro, to FileMaker Server to perform much faster. In some cases this may result in more than 10 times faster execution, which is a significant improvement.
There are other methods and tools for doing the same thing available, such as Skeleton Key’s FMRPC whose benefit is said to be its instant setup and ease of use. The great thing about FMSDIFM is that Fabrice Normann is now offering it free of charge. Check it out at the 1-more-thing website and let me know how you optimized your solutions with FMSDIFM. Of course, you can measure and compare your results with FM Bench…
I look forward to hearing about your achievements!
